downloading brushes [Saturday November 14 2009 @ 10:54am]

I can't figure out how to download brushes into PS7. After downloading the brush, I unload the zip file to Program Files-->Adobe-->PS7-->Presets-->Brushes. When I do this, sometimes the brushes work, but most often then not, they don't.

Any suggestions?

Two things! Hand sewing + stenciling halp? [Saturday November 14 2009 @ 10:51am]

[snarkitty]
Hey ladies (and gents!)

I've got two questions:

1. Does anyone have any recommendations for either books or online tutorials for hand stitching? My hand stitching is awful and I would really like to improve it!

2. Any recommendations for stenciling? I've been making purses with a demon girl cameo on the front (using hand cut stencil plastic and fabric paint), but I'm having a hard time getting the paint to stay IN the stencil (and not blop out and ruin the silhouette). I'm also having a hard time getting details (like the eye lashes). I've tried using paint brushes and painting, miniature brushes for the small parts, rollers, squeegies, stamp brushes.. blah! Any recommendations would be very much appreciated :)

Note on the above: I also tried the method of using an embroidery hoop and organza with mod podge to fill out the non-stencil part, and paining in that but it also leaks a little. But honestly it might be me doing something poorly!

And so there is some visual niftiness, here's some things that I've made!

pictures of stuff! )

Thanks in advance! :)

1st post/Richard Scarry presents! [Saturday November 14 2009 @ 12:54pm]

I just found this community and am so excited!! I love sewing, especially stuffed animals/things for kiddos...I'm starting to get interested in quilting but haven't got a lot of time (full time student, part time job, soon to be mom...) at any rate, here are my latest projects!

Made for a little one celebrating his 1st birthday today: a Huckle Cat hat, made from a felted angora sweater and a Lowly Worm stuffed animal. Lowly is about 3ft tall and is all felt, all hand-sewn. The hat didn't end up looking as much like Huckle as I had imagined it would, but I am really excited about how Lowly turned out!

Amigurumi base help? [Saturday November 14 2009 @ 9:11am]

Hi...

I have started to make some little Amigurumi and since I don't have much money this year for gifts I thought I would make Amigurumi for my nephew...
now I have looked around and I haven't found something to help me much on my project... you see I am looking for a base pattern really beauce I want to make Astro as an Amigurumi I know someone did an Etsy for Astro the original version but my nephew only know the blue jacket version.

I'm pretty sure I can figure out the pointy parts by myself... but I would need a good base body... Any free patterns I could base this off?

Thank you for your help, I personally would like the old version of Astro but kids nowdays...if it's not close it's no cigar...

X-cross posted in like communities...

loading a drop-in bobbin [Friday November 13 2009 @ 6:39pm]

[aprilvalentine]
Hi all,

I haven't sewed in awhile because both my machnes had problems. I've got them back now from the repair shop but I find once again that I'm having problems loading the bobbin of my Shark machine into the bobbin case so I can sew. It's a metal case bobbin that goes in in an up and down postion and all my life, I've used the drop in kind that lay flat. Every now and then, I've managed to get it installed correctly, but even looking at the directions that came with the machine doesn't really help. I've searched online too but can't find something to let me know what I do wrong that makes the bobbin fall out. There is a little lever on the metal bobbin case that you lift up and release as you install it, I think. Can anyone help me figure out what it is I'm doing wrong? I would be grateful eternally!

Thanks!

Mod Podge blog [Friday November 13 2009 @ 8:09am]

Someone recently asked about decoupage crafts...I don't have any current projects to share, but I did want to mention a decoupaging blog I found a few months ago: ModPodgeRocks. Amy features really cute projects and "modern" ways to use Mod Podge.

I created a syndicated feed on LJ so I could follow the blog on my friends list. If you're interested, go here and click on Subscribe in the upper right corner. New entries to the blog will start appearing on your f-list (when the RSS feeds are working on LJ, that is).

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this screen cap:

No matter what I do, because it's so low quality, I can't seem to lighten it up & make it look somewhat decent. Any idea how I can do this without loosing all the detail & without everything blending in?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Can't seem to find any tags to put this with.. so I think this one works, sorry!

Also, I use Photoshop CS3

Animation is too slow [Thursday November 12 2009 @ 7:51pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

I'm planning on making an icon using a screencap, which can be found below the cut. You may notice that the animation is very slow. I use VirtualDub, CamStudio, and ImageReady. It's speed is fine when played in vDub, but when opened in ImageReady it's deathly slow, and I can't seem to understand why.

Any ideas on what I can do so the speed isn't like that? I screencap at 40 frames per second, and the time between each frame in ImageReady is set to 0sec. I've tried many things, and I have a headache from all this D:

Any help is very very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Solved! Thank you all so much (:

Cutting decals of baby clothing and putting them on adult clothing. [Thursday November 12 2009 @ 3:56pm]

craftgrrl

[addicted2crafts]
Now would you want to cut very very close to the decal or leave some of the original fabric around it?

To attach it to my shirt, I am now going to put it on some white fabric, since my shirts white and sew it on there and also use iron on fusable webbing.

if some of you have done this before and have a better way of taking pre existing decals and stuff off baby clothing an putting it on a bigger shirt, so you can wear it please let me know.

Yes I have cross posted to other crafts to get a wider arena of replies, in case nobody replies in one group, or someone in another group has done or heard of what I am doing, and the other groups have not.
